What do I need to Record & Mix?
The basic equipment so you can start recording is:
* A computer with as much CPU power and RAM as you can afford. More software running through the project = more cpu and ram. Dual Core processor and 2 giga ram is a nice starting point.
* A sound card. Firewire sound cards are pretty nice and affordable these days. Firewire is usually preferred than USB sound cards.
* A daw. Daw stands for "Digital Audio Workstation". In simple terms it's the program that you use to record, mix and use all the addons like compressors, equalizers, limiters to improve your sound.
* A guitar and a bass, of course. (unless you use MIDI software).
* Amplifiers and mics for the amplifiers are optional cause you can connect your guitar or bass to your sound card and use a program for amplification. We live in 2010 everything can be done by your pc hehe. But, most of the times, using a real amp and a mic has a better and a warmer sound... Again: It depends on the amplifier, if your "real" amplifier sucks you should better use the digital one.
* Drums. You can also use digital drums which I find really great.
