How to make your kick drum and bass guitar sit nicely in a mix
Many of us have a difficult time to make our bass guitar and kick drum co-operate and not "fighting" in the mix. We want them to work together and yet hear them seperately.
Of course you can use hi-pass filters and all the stuff that you've learnt, but here we will be more focused on bass guitar and kick drum. We will use
sweeping a lot here.
Let's go:1) Boost the low frequencies of a kick drum (50 - 90hz or so), cut the low mids (150 to 400hz), boost the high frequencies around 3kz (attack of the kick).
2) For bass guitar do the opposite. Cut around 50 -90hz, boost around 100 - 150 hz for fuller bass sound and boost around 800 - 1000 kz too.
3) Hipass both at about 30-35hz it wont do any damage
In fact, we use EQ to help them
not to conflict with each other.
We make some room to the mix too.
As i always say use your ears and the
sweeping method to find out what frequencies you need to use most.
"Less is more" is a rule that should be applied here. But experimentation is always welcome to the world of music production.
Please let me know if the above helped you.
