I'm Mike, studied music tech for 2 years in college and I'm aspiring to build my skills and knowledge until I'm truely satisfied with the tracks I've done. Just like most people hehe.
Originally from South Wales, recently moved to London hoping to find more opportunity within the industry. Only 19, still have a lot to learn which is why I'm overjoyed about sites such as this one with good communities Smile

Only recently started investing in equipment. Only got my laptop, use either Cubase 5 or Reaper as my DAW (finding my own preference between the two, and that works best for my computer specs). Using a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB, have a couple of 57's and 58's and then I have a lot of general freeware for amp sims and impulses etc.

Been playing guitar for 5 years, recently got into all the polyrhythmic 'djent' style bands such as Periphery, Vildhjarta and Tesseract. Really interested in techniques that have been used (especially with a lot of the Periphery / Bulb recordings)
Also an on / off drummer and bassist.
Planning on investing in a mac. Used to use an iMac during college and I really liked using Logic Pro, excellent DAW.
That's about it, so greetings to everyone =]

Hehe, cheers buddy. Only been here since Monday and already I've got several opportunities (I'm a promoter / event organiser as well.)
It's always nice to get into a relatively new forum, so glad I'm here!
I might be needing a tad bit of help with composition / production for audio in film. I need to get a compilation of suitable tracks together in a bit less than two weeks. I've done small things, in college, making tracks for a lucozade advert (person made from water, running on water and dives underneath, comes back up and introduces the product)
But that was only adverts length, I no longer have a copy of this because it was left on the mac's in college.
If you could suggest a starting point? I've been looking at John Murphy's - In a Heartbeat. It was featured on 28 Days Later and is a very atmospheric track, great through a good sound system!
Any help would be much appreciated.

well this forum is about mixing tips but i'll try my best to help you out.
please explain me exactly what you need to do, how many songs do you need in this compilation, what kind of film is this, when do you want the songs to play? during the film in certain takes? and so on Smile

The films called Zombie Diaries 2. There's tid bits of information I found on search engines about the film. It's still a bit vague though. I've been asked to compose one track only (got some metal tracks in the compilation as well, I was told it would be a good thing to put forward)
I don't think there's any footage yet for me to do this to. This is just so I can get onto the project, so I need to mix some impressive sounding tracks, very dynamic. The track I mentioned earlier is a prime example of what I'm looking to do. I'm still new to mastering. So I think the best thing for me to do would be to ask for tips when I'm having trouble with certain section etc as I'm composing / mixing the track, once I finish up the song, I post it through as a Wave / AIFF file for you to take a listen. I haven't worked to produce for anyone except for myself yet, so it's quite an exciting opportunity for me Very Happy
I dont know much more than this for the project, it's basically just having the right thing for the interview that's been scheduled. Up against 4 others I think, could go either way.

Well mate i 'd really love to help you out.

Of course, you can post your mix and ask us what more can you do to improve it.
But if you feel that time is fast and cant help yourself, send the wav files in a zipped file and i 'll do the mixing and mastering for you.

FOR FREE, of course.

If you need free mixing/mastering go here:
http://www.forum-mixingtips.org/free-mixing-mastering-f20/

and create a new topic with your zipped file Wink
