King Diamond 7. Slayer 8. Metal CHurch 9. Motley Crue 10. Steel Panther 11. Opeth . . . AND Many MORE... My favorite is Megadeth and W.A.S.P. and then the list can vary.

| Live in Amsterdam was epic.

Matt Guillory's keys and Marco Sfogli's guitars are intense.anyone who likes shredding must listen to this album.

| have you heard "Re-traced"?
your opinions on it?
i don't think they committed to what the direction was.they were to "between" sounds for that IMO.and i LOVE CYNIC.

i don't think they committed to what the direction was.they were to "between" sounds for that IMO.and i LOVE CYNIC. I have not heard it, so no opinions bout it... yet jeje. Cynic is for me, the perfect example of a "progressive metal" band. "Traced in air" is a perfect album, and i really love the vocoder thing that Paul introduced for his voice as a part of the concept. There are bands like Dream Theater, people swear they're progressive metal... I think they were progressive rock, but right now, they are not even metal, hell not even progressive.

| TIA was a part of metal history.
i love DT hardcore but you are right.
they were once progressive. but you can only be at the head of the prog movement so long before what you are doing becomes the norm.
at least in the eyes of the rest of the prog population.
prog is about continual change.no matter how many different ideas a person might have, the ideas are still coming from the same person.
prog fans are some of the most loyal yet thickle fans. its impossible to keep prog fans interested.once they have heard something, its no longer new/progressive.
when listening to prog its key to acknowledge the writers mind-frame at the time more so than many other types of genres.
at least for me.sorry for the rant.

| You're absolutely right, the became the norm, specially with really well elaborated ideas like "Awake" or "Scenes from a memory".
I'm not really into prog rock or metal, i just happen to like and listen a few bands such as Pain of salvation, Enchant, Archetype, Cynic. But you are right, it's just like the genre itself, songs are always progressing, always "evolving", And so are the bands with time too.

| I forgot about Spiral Architect... To me they are mathematical guru´s, their playing skills are perfect, so much that the music feels kind of robotic and dry.
They lack something really important in music, (at least for me) and that is Emotion, or feeling, whatever you may call it.
