| Hey guys, I'd really appreciate help on mixing this mix, also for the mastering. I removed everything on the master bus as you suggested. For the snare, I know it's it thin and shitty I like those piccolo sounds, but i'd like it a little fatter? Any ideas? It's the Metal Foundry, I have trouble to find a good snare sound... don't know why, but the Avatar kit sounded better to me... The guitars are in Overloud TH1 and the bass is in Amplitube 3. (The bassist is really slapping the bass, so I want to keep that slap sound, but I think right now it sounds really awful. maybe I should find another plugin?) Thanks a lot! and i'd like help too on the bass/guitar sounds Used some multiband compression to even out your frequencies. The Kick was mostly the problem in the mix that was letting it down. I squashed from 20hz - 80hz ti get the Kick nice and even, plus bring up some of the bass, then boosted it by a good 6db. Gave it a nice thump while still being nice and consitant. The rest was actually pretty good. Little cut of EQ at 240hz to take away some mud, and a little dip at about 3khz to take some nasty shrill off the track (although i think that may be my ears) After that, it was just a master of some M/S compression, nothing major, 2.00:1 ratio, slow release then fired up the maximiser to bring it to the desired level. If you would like some help for each of the parts, mind tossing me individual tracks so i can hear each intrument solo'd? If possible the drum tracks solo'd as well? | |

| Thanks a lot for the infos I'll try to work out something similar... Was the kick too loud in the mix? It's so present, personally, for metal I like when the kick is loud, but is it too much? I'll try to lay down the bass track without effects as soon as I can cause it's really that that is causing problems. | |

I think you only notice it because of the lack of bass. It stands out alot because theres nothing really down there trying to compete for those frequencies. If you can get them sent to me, ill have a little listen, see what you can do with the bass. If its slap the bassist is doing, trying going a little harder on the compression, that way the notes will sound more even when hes not slapping.

| One thing i would note is, the snare drum sounds pants lol. Try replacing it if you can with something that has a bit more body. It sounds very plasticy to me. | |

Cut from 150 to 400hz of your kick drum in order to avoid "boxiness". You really need to do this.
Snare is a little dead. Try to change it with a more "full" one and boost around 250hz for more body. Add a plate reverb too! (not much ok? )

Do you have the snare sample handy that you used for gifenrich's track? That snare was deadly!!

| ahhh, yeah I haven't thought about uploading it in mp3, will do that next time.
It's pretty nice Sender, have you mixed all the tracks or remastered? also, should I duplicate the bass track to do the bass/grit technique I read somewhere here. maybe it would sound better?

| Ok after listening to the tracks seperate (minus drums ofc) ill add my 2 cents, im no expert ofc, ill all about learning Bass. The actual tone is ok id say. The problem i think comes from the attack of the playing. Compression at source would've really evened the sound out, bringing the playing and the slapping to a good even level. The slaps I find sound really weak and thin, and very trebly, and sometimes get lost when listening to them. Guitar - I really like the guitar tone actually. When mixing, try setting your high pass filter a little higher, take away some of the extra unwanted bass, and maybe a small bit of mutliband compression to tame the 100-300hz range, giving your bass more room to breathe. Drums - Need some serious work. I find the snare is very overpowering, and just takes over the track. The kick should be easy enough to work in if you can get the rest of the kit to sound better. Would you mid uploading the kit individually so we can have a little go at mixing the drums as well? If I find something that works well, i'll galdily pass on the setting etc i used. | |

| Thanks for the reply dude! Mmmm, what if I send you the Metal Foundry preset? It's been a few days already working on snare sound and I don't really like all the choices...
For the bass, what kind of compression do you suggest to even out the sound? If you have the metal foundry just tell me and i'll post the preset

Try working with something insane like 30:1, with a super fast attack and release. Then lower the ratio enough until you get to the a point where you like the dynamics. From there, lenghthen the release time and attack speed to get it pumping and it should give you a nice even tone. 8:1 should be more than enough at the correct threshold.
