| Mission: Quick heavy thrash notes Enemy: Mud First get yourself a nice guitar sound. Watch out the ones with the that J3FFR3Y2692 pointed out: http://www.forum-mixingtips.org/software-vst-f7/list-of-guitar-and-bass-ampsim-software-t53.htmUse some nice impulses like guitarchacks. Put a high pass filter at around 100Hz or more depending on your sound. Play fast riffs and adjust the filter to your taste. Also put a low pass filter at about 12-13Khz to avoid noise. Mission (almost) accomplished! Hope this helps | |

| I agree on the high and lo pass filters on the guitar, they remove all the unwanted junk frequencies. Once you do this, your guitar track will sound a lot better. Don't worry about having so much low end on the guitar track, leave the low end of the mix to the bass guitar. Keep in mind that most of the tone comes from your right hand. REALLY concentrate on your picking hand, it is crucial to a tight guitar sound. Spend a few minutes a day with your left hand away from the guitar and just use your right hand and pick open strings. Really listen out for the differences in tone when you pick at different strengths and also WHERE you pick on the string. For example, try not to pick close to the neck, it dampens the tone. If a nice sharp heavy tone is what your going for, pick as close to the bridge as possible. IMO try to keep the pick flat. But trust me on this, many guitarists ignore their right hand and learn advanced sweep picks and move around the neck quickly but the problem is they don't know how to pick. Focus on it and your tone is going to improve A LOT. Next time someone hears your playing, They're gonna wonder how it sounds so good. Hope I helped out. | |

| if using amplitube i noticed that the V-model cabinets (5150) are pretty scooped but very tight. you might want to try those, and stuff a petal in front of your amp that cuts a little on the low mids. screamer i guess or diode (i own amp3 so i dont know)
also some amps are really muddy on high gain. so you might want to experiment with gain settings on pedal vs gain settings on amp.
and of course there is your picking. not too far from the bridge and be sure to have an angle of at least 30-45° | |
